Nazeing Decoy

Fully planned the excursion out to this last night after work - full of expectation, and maybe to add a little disappointment about getting to a site that would be either inaccessible due to a grumpy farmer - or arriving at the site to skirt around farmers crops without being spotted. Excellent - harvested crops so that part was sorted out. The next was to park up and gain access to the site.
The rain had died off so all was good on that front. Thankfully not much mud to clog the boots but i was to still find it slippery underfoot. Cutting through a path from the farmers gate i looked around, found no-one around and cut across to the site.

Thankfully not too many nettles around though my shins are getting used to the tingle of another successful hit.

A serously unsafe entrance to the decoy meant a few tests to see if it was safe to enter. Thankfully yes.

As we can see there is a serious amount of subsidence to the site.

Finally on the inside looking out.

After a few slips and visits into the nettles and brambles - job done.

It goes to show that i need to prep and recce these sites before setting out. I almost stumpled into the entrance and into a carefully placed bath at the bottom.

Needing a torch next time to get my bearings. (something for the future!)

Possibly to aid ventilation but i never found the exit point in the brambles.

And finally the exit and way home. Loving the sense of achievement at getting to and the success of visiting a site. It's all a huge learning curve for me. Things to take next time - torch, prep for the site and a greater time span to explore to the full.

Hope you enjoy this no doubt well documented site.
