Mopping up them Pillboxes (again)

Well this turned out to be an epic journey which was originally a 'see how far i get' and to what success. Suffice to say the journey involved a couple of Police stops (both innocent), a stop over in a field listening to the sheep, foxes and trains lazily breaking my sleep. That determination to get the Pillboxes i'd missed wasn't going to wane. The first one - internals after checking no-one was about in the yard. Then Up at 05.00 to catch the breaking day to get those externals and then get to the other Pillbox before anyone woke up.

Starting off in Cheshunt after walking to the tow path to the River Lea, i needed to get to Cheshunt Golf Club as my starting point. It was almost impossible to correctly locate but i eventually found that old familiar shape in the gloom.

S0012134. The DoB states no specification but it looks like a 22 to me.  It was initially very hard to find with it sat behind a huge bank of earth and sat in the gloom of the woods.  Sat right behind Cuffley Golf Course it was strange to hear those early morning golf nuts out for a game before work.  The manicured greens looking enticing compared to the much, damp and gloom of the usual pillbox.

The entrance was a tiny crawl space and i decided to venture in after checking for broken glass laying in the leaves.

The damage to the AR wall is significant.

A short walk through the woods to the South East corner of the second field across and it leads nicely into the bat box. This seems to have been closed off and put to further use since the DoB entry.

Though i revisited some other sites along the route to the next Pillbox - i shall skip them out.  Primarily this report is about catching the connecting run of Pillboxes that i couldn't get to before. I'm totally determined to chase the line of defences and detail as much as i can.

Having checked there were no people around the yard - i snuck inside the Pillbox and in the dying gloom - this wasn't the best of experiences. So much debris and water floating around in there. The interior is clean though. Using the flash to get the photos was a moment where every shot could have meant being discovered.

After a kind of restless night attempting to keep warm by stretching my top over my legs and burning my zippo near my scroats, i managed to remain sufficiently warm for it to be acceptable. Back into the yard for the externals.

Heading down to the bottom corner of the field i spent more time working out how to get over the barbed wire, electrical fence (dead i presumed), ditch and loose sides which beckoned me to get dumped on my ass.
Success and over the other side i navigated blind side to the house to get to the Pillbox. Thankfully no barking dogs around and it seems a great playhouse for someone.

The regularity of the attempt to break the shape seems too much of a work of art.

After a brief respite sat outside the Church in Newgate street a wandered off down the hill to again get the PB and roadblock that i have previously missed in the area of Carbone Hill and Cuffley Brook. The DoB has 2 PB's and 2 roadblocks when there are 3 roadblocks on the eastern side, and the one which has collapsed into the old river is detailed photographically. When i originally visited this area i couldn't find the PB and therefore thought i had caught the roadblocks that are marked up. Anyhow.......

With the roadblock sat behind it :

The internal shots of S0005051. Note there is no anti-ricochet wall.

The following are areas i have documented previously but what the hell......
